چکیده

The ducts in the breast have cylindrical form. Ductal microcalcifications are inside duct. Periductal microcalcifications are inside the wall duct . We want to be able to reconstruct ductal and periductal microcalcifications from tomosynthesis images. At a first step on this work we're investigating a system that can identify three dimensions cylindrical forms in tomosynthesis. In this paper we expose a method to evaluate a tomosynthesis simulation system by its reconstruction contrast definition and its geometric distortion for an ellipsoid that its placed at different heights between image plane and focus source. We evaluate the distance relation among focus source, an objet and image plane that offer better tomosynthesis reconstruction for an objet that have cylindrical cross-section.

Importance of point-by-point back projection correction for isocentric motion in digital breast tomosynthesis: relevance to morphology of structures such as microcalcifications.

Digital breast tomosynthesis is a three-dimensional imaging technique that provides an arbitrary set of reconstruction planes in the breast from a limited-angle series of projection images acquired while the x-ray tube moves. Traditional shift-and-add (SAA) tomosynthesis reconstruction is a common mathematical method to line up each projection image based on its shifting amount to generate reco...

Ultra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...

Image quality of microcalcifications in digital breast tomosynthesis: effects of projection-view distributions.

PURPOSE To analyze the effects of projection-view (PV) distribution on the contrast and spatial blurring of microcalcifications on the tomosynthesized slices (X-Y plane) and along the depth (Z) direction for the same radiation dose in digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT). METHODS A GE GEN2 prototype DBT system was used for acquisition of DBT scans. The system acquires PV images from 21 angles i...

Visualization of Breast Microcalcifications on Digital Breast Tomosynthesis and 2-Dimensional Digital Mammography Using Specimens

PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to compare the visibility of microcalcifications of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and full-field digital mammography (FFDM) using breast specimens. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-one specimens' DBT and FFDM were retrospectively reviewed by four readers. RESULTS The image quality of microcalcifications of DBT was rated as superior or equivalent in 71.0...

Enhanced imaging of microcalcifications in digital breast tomosynthesis through improved image-reconstruction algorithms.

PURPOSE The authors develop a practical, iterative algorithm for image-reconstruction in undersampled tomographic systems, such as digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT). METHODS The algorithm controls image regularity by minimizing the image total p variation (TpV), a function that reduces to the total variation when p = 1.0 or the image roughness when p = 2.0. Constraints on the image, such as ...
